A 12-year-old boy from Nallasopara, on the outskirts of Mumbai, has been booked for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old grandfather and attacking his aunt – both residents of Mumbai’s Kalina area – over a domestic dispute.
According to a report, the incident took place on February 19 after the boy’s mother blamed the grandfather for their financial crunch. The mother allegedly told the boy that the grandfather, who she claims did not approve of her, instructed his son (the boy’s father), who works in West Asia, to not send the family money.
According to the Vakola police, the boy’s father stopped sending money to his family without citing reasons. The mother blamed the grandfather, who she claims tattled on her to her husband for what he called ‘irrelevant expenditure’.
Last week, when the boy asked his mother for money, she blamed the grandfather for the situation they were in. This apparently enraged the boy and he decided to do something about it.
On February 19, the boy left his Nallasopara home without informing his mother and left for Santacruz where his grandfather lives. On his way to the station, he purchased a paper cutter, the police said.
When he reached the grandfather’s house, the boy picked an argument with him. During the scuffle, the boy allegedly stabbed the grandfather in the chest, shoulder and face.
Hearing the man’s screams, the boy’s aunt, who lives next door rushed to the spot, but her hand was bit. The neighbours, who also heard the screams, overpowered the boy. The old man and his daughter were then rushed to VN Desai Hospital in Santacruz.
Based on a complaint from his aunt, the boy was booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon) of the IPC, said Yogesh Langute, Vakola police sub-inspector. The boy was sent to the children’s rehabilitation home in Dongri.
